The FPL ceiling insulation rebate, and whether your house qualifies

What the program pays

Florida Power & Light's Residential Ceiling Insulation program pays a rebate of $220 per installation. The program standards we are citing took effect on September 1, 2025.

It is not a form you mail in afterward. FPL requires the rebate to appear as an itemized credit on the contractor's invoice, with the customer paying the amount net of the rebate. Done correctly, you never front the money.

The three conditions on your house

FPL's program standards list three eligibility requirements, and all three have to hold.

An active FPL residential account. Straightforward for most of Brevard.

Whole-house central electric air conditioning and heating. Window units and gas heat do not qualify.

A verified existing ceiling R-value below R-8. This is the one that decides most cases, and it cuts both ways: an attic that already has decent insulation is not eligible, and an attic that feels bad may still measure above the line. It has to be verified, not estimated, and FPL requires access to all attic spaces to determine it.

The contractor requirement most people miss

The rebate is not available on any qualifying job. FPL delivers the program through Participating Independent Contractors, and the program standards require the customer to select and hire a PIC to perform the work. A contractor who is not enrolled cannot apply the credit, no matter how well the house qualifies.

There are conditions on the work itself too. The attic has to be accessible, since FPL excludes inaccessible attics and flat roof installations. The insulation has to be new rather than reused. Additions and renovations do not qualify. And it cannot go on top of an unfinished drop ceiling.

Where we stand, plainly

The Attic Monkeys is not currently an FPL Participating Independent Contractor. We are not going to imply otherwise on a page about the rebate, because the whole point of the program is that it only pays through an enrolled contractor.

What we can do is the part FPL requires either way: get into your attic and measure what is actually up there. The R-8 threshold is the condition that decides most applications, and knowing your number tells you whether the rebate is worth organizing at all. That check is free and we will give you the reading whether or not you hire us.
